The B List: Wax On. Wax Off.

ree

Let's talk about a yummy medium that's been transforming my work: Cold wax. Forget everything you think you know about finishes because this stuff is pure magic.

Imagine the creamy texture of your favorite face cream, but infused with the subtle, sweet scent of beeswax. That's cold wax. Mix it with oil paints (no more than 50/50, trust me), and suddenly, your work gains a whole new dimension.

Here's where it gets exciting: I've been using it as a finishing layer on my acrylic pieces. Yes, you heard that right!

Instead of a polyacrylic varnish, I'm applying two thin coats of cold wax, just like waxing a car. Wax on, wax off. The result? A velvety, warm glow that adds depth, transparency, and a luxurious finish you can't achieve any other way. It's like giving your art a hug.

Two brands I love: Dorland's Wax Medium and Gamblin Cold Wax Medium.

Give cold wax a try. It might just become your new favorite secret weapon, too.
