Let's be honest, we're all searching for that creative spark, that elusive breakthrough. But what if I told you the answer wasn't a grand, sweeping gesture, but a series of tiny, deliberate actions?
I used to believe in setting massive goals, pushing through, and learning as I went. But lately, I've been diving into something even more intriguing...
Breaking those goals down into tiny, focused projects.
Why? I've tapped into wisdom of Anne-Laure Le Cunff, author of Tiny Experiments, which hit the bookshelves last week. She shares that consistent, small, and iterative experiments are far more effective than waiting for those rare, monumental bursts of inspiration. |
WOW! Talk about taking the pressure off!
Think about it: continuous exploration, manageable actions, low-pressure learning. It's liberating!
So, how do we translate this into actionable steps? Here's what I've gleaned, and how you can apply it to your creative life?
The Power of Tiny: 📌 Dive in, fearlessly: Small experiments, or you can call them projects, lower the stakes. No pressure, just pure exploration. 📌 The joy of discovery: Shift your focus from the perfect product to the process. Each experiment is a chance to learn, refine, and uncover new ideas. 📌 Play = productivity: Shake up your routine, embrace variability, and let your imagination run wild. |
My Personal Experiment: The 4 x 10 Challenge
Monday, I’m launching my 4 x 10 Challenge -- four focused hours in the studio every morning for ten days. I'm testing the power of deep work, blocks of uninterrupted creative time. Can 40 hours of focused work truly transform my creative process? And is this a sustainable model for deep, distraction-free creativity?
What happens when I put ART FIRST, every day? I'm excited to find out! |
Your Tiny Experiment Challenge:
This week, commit to one tiny experiment — an area you are want to grown in, a material you want to explore, a connection you want to make.
Here are a few ideas to get your started:
✔️The 15-minute sketch week: Ditch the pressure of a full painting. Commit to a daily 15-minute sketch. What will you discover about your vision? Could this lead to a whole new collection? ✔️ What if?" adventures: Ask those daring questions! "What if I used only one color?" "What if I tried a new medium?" Dedicate several days or a month to each "what if?" ✔️ Environment remix: Change your workspace - paint outside. Listen to new music or no music. How does it shift your creative flow?
Commit to it. Do it. And grown. Click LET'S TALK and share your experiences! Let's explore, experiment, and create!
