Are Your Wonder Years Your Making Years?

Catherine Eaton Skinner knows the Wonder Years.
At age 79, she holds sway in her studio and talks about the wonder of… Being in the world and seeing it with artist’s eyes. Photographing the micro details of a flower. Wiping a handful or oil pigment across a canvas. Beginning a conversation with nature that grows into 108 panels of art.
Creating now, more than ever, her 50-piece show Earth is the Magnet of the Sky opens in a few weeks at the Mesa Public Library in Los Almos, NM.
“I close my eyes and see myself as a child…
a child’s voice is surely never his alone,” Catherine writes.
Her dance with creativity grows richer with every day. Every year. These are the Wonder Years.
It makes me think of the artists who find their way to Santa Fe Artist Getaway, searching for that more profound connection to their own creative language.
Like Amy, a family doctor who felt this undeniable pull towards a more expressive life and just dove headfirst into these huge, vibrant abstracts about "reawakening."
Or Claire, who built this amazing design firm for 30 years and then, with that chapter complete, turned to painting the water and hills she loves in Sausalito.
And Barbara, a psychologist and author, whose creativity took off when she embraced abstract painting – and last week snagged first place for Fields of Forever.
It’s like something shifts, doesn't it?
I think of myself, of my Wonder Years. Layering marks over a thick canvas exploring the energy of life. Studying and writing about creativity. Designing programs that take us into the vast richness of what it means to move through life as a creative.
You too feel this power surge in this second half, right?
This "forward creative flow" is richer, different. It's like we're tapping into a deep well of hard-earned wisdom, a lifetime of understanding. That need to prove ourselves? It eases, doesn't it?
With all we've lived, we're uniquely poised to link unexpected ideas, see with fresh eyes, and approach our art with real nuance. It shifts to profound personal exploration, weaving life's complexities, and wanting to leave our mark.
The result? Art with deeper emotion, true originality, and lasting resonance.
So, friend, where are you on this amazing creative journey? Let's nurture this incredible energy together. Santa Fe Artist Getaway is designed just for this – to give you space, inspiration, and guidance to truly let your spirit soar.
Come join us, and let's unlock your full, vibrant potential.
What do you say?
