Q: Can I make a living as a full-time artist?
A: Okay, let's be honest: Only about 10% of artists are pulling in a full-time living just from art. But hey, that doesn't mean we can't make it work!
The secret? Diversification, baby!
My personal strategy (and yours): 🔸Bread and butter art: You know, those smaller pieces that fly off the shelves? For me, it's my mini abstracts. They're quick, fun, and people love 'em. What's your go-to that sells with entry-level collectors? 🔸Passion projects: These are the big, juicy pieces that make my soul sing. They have a higher ticket price and "talk" to collectors. 🔸Creative hustle: Commissions? Yes! Teaching? Absolutely! Think about what else you're good at. Design? Content? Installations? Online shops, social media, your own website—get visible! 🔸Community is key: Art fairs, galleries, collaborations, and finding your artist tribe that will open doors and support you.
Mindset boost: 🔸Treat your art like a business (even if it feels weird). 🔸Build your brand—what makes you, you? 🔸Rejection happens. Learn from it. 🔸Patience and persistence: Becoming a full-time artist takes time and dedication.
