![]() It’s easy to create predictable. Stiff marks. Uninspired marks. That's why I'm sharing a fantastic loosening-up prompt: Wrist. Arm. Body.
This is physical; this is loosening up! Grab a familiar object, like a coffee cup, and try these steps:
🔸 Wrist: Sitting down, draw the cup with a pencil using only wrist movements. 🔸 Arm: Stand up, extend your arm, and draw the cup again, holding a wet brush at arm's length. 🔸 Body: Stand up, place your canvas on a large easel or wall, grab a long-handled brush, and dance into the painting, using your whole body. Be loose, be free, be fresh!
Now, compare the three. Which is the most interesting?
You'll see the wrist drawing is tight. The arm drawing looser. But the full-body "dance" is where the magic happens – fluid marks emerge.
This exercise reveals the power of letting go to unlock creative flow. Try it! 🔸Join me in this exercise on my YouTube channel. |
