How To: Make Mini Abstracts

Service Description

Make big impressions with small paintings. Abstract expressionist art’s hallmark is big… big canvas, big color, big movement. You will explore how to translate the impact of “bigness” to smaller works. The workshop covers: • Expressing ideas abstractly • Creating abstract expressionism art on a small scale • Using the basics of abstract expressionism – marks, line, color, light, values, emotion/energy, movement, medium and exploration • Using brushes, tools, hands, found objects • How to prep, paint, finish and present on cradled wood panels. You’ll provide your own materials and create along with Beverly. Materials: • Cradled wood panel. Sizes can be 8” x 8”, 10” x 10”, or 12” x 12”. Available from Blick, Amazon, and other art supply stores. • Acrylic paint – Medium or fluid body. Basic colors. Professional quality. Good brands – Golden, Liquitex, Nova, Utrecht, Chroma. Not recommend -- craft paint or house paint. o If you are new to acrylic, you may want to start with: Golden A-Z Acrylic Explorer Set – includes several colors & bodies of paint as well as mediums Liquitex acrylic paint set. Comes in sets of 8, 12, 24, 36, 48 or 72 paints. The set of eight primary colors is a good starter set. • Tools – A mix of brushes in small to large sizes. You may also want a collection of unusual tools -- spatula, scraper, old credit card, sticks. • Mark making – A variety of mark makers, for example: every-day pencils, charcoal or graphite pencils, oil pastel sticks (Sennelier is a good brand), Stabilo Woody sticks, gel sticks (Kingart is a good brand). • Use what you have on hand, no need to buy all new supplies. Payment and Refund Policy • Enrollment is only guaranteed with registration and full payment • We use PayPal and QuickBooks for your online payment and refunds. Keeping your financial information secure is absolutely our top priority. Please contact us if you prefer to pay by check or money order • A minimum of 10 students is required per workshop. If the minimum is not met 30 days before the start date, the workshop may be cancelled. Students will be notified via email. A full refund will be issued. It is recommended that student not make non-refundable travel or lodging arrangement prior to 30 days • If Santa Fe Artists Getaway cancels the workshop for any reason, students shall receive a full refund • Student cancellations must be submitted in writing, and received by btoddarts@gmail.com • Cancellations made 31 days before the first day of class receive a full refund, less a $100 processing fee • Any cancellations made 30 days or less in advance of the first day will receive no refund, unless there is a wait list and another student takes that place; then the student shall receive a full refund less a $100 processing fee • No refund, credits or transfers will be applied on or after the workshop start date • No refund, credit or make-up will be offered for missed days • A $100 fee will be charged on all returned checks
