Service Description

Who doesn’t love fast and loose cowboys? No matter your skill level, this introductory class will help you explore several types of aqua media, color mixing and expressive portraiture all while focusing on the ever-engaging subject of the cowboy of the American West! Using a quick draw technique cowboys would be proud of, you will practice capturing the face in an expressionist, not perfectionist, style. You’ll learn how to combine watercolor, acrylic, and water soluble pencils, in layers to create interesting grounds, shadows, and focal points. We will discuss color-mixing techniques while creating color charts for future reference. And we will explore how a limited color palette can force interesting creative decisions in a portrait with delightful and harmonious results. Working on paper and on canvas during this workshop, you will create an entire posse of cowboys! You will leave with: • greater confidence in capturing a face, • a better understanding of color mixing and color theory, and • a better understanding of how aqua media can work for you. Lunch & refreshments included. Lauren Florence With a background in silk dyeing, Oklahoma City-based artist Lauren Florence turned to acrylics and canvas after the birth of her son.
