Abstract drawing is the translation of direct experience into lines and shapes. It’s a private way of working with our sense impressions, and it’s how we think visually. As artist Richard Tuttle puts it, “Drawing is quite essential to knowing the self.” This workshop offers innovative ways of seeing and sensing, increasing awareness of the various roles that light, line, shape, form, scale and placement play in our work— essential abstract principles. Through a range of materials and techniques we also explore the changes that have marked the expansion of abstract drawing as an individual art form in the twenty first century—a form not limited to traditional drawing materials but one that that encompasses elements of painting, collage, printmaking and sculpture. Everyone benefits from drawing. Through drawing we gain fluency and confidence. Artists at all levels of experience will find that drawing is a powerful tool for understanding and creating artwork—either as a basis for further art making or as finished works in and of themselves. Registration includes lunch. Sara Post www.sarapostart.com Sara Post is an abstract painter working primarily in oil based mixed media.
